Top stats to know: Percy Harvin trade

AP Photo/Alex BrandonPercy Harvin was paid as an elite receiver by the Seahawks but the results weren't there.
The Seahawks rank last in the NFL in passing, averaging 199 yards through the air per game. But that didn’t stop Pete Carroll & Co. from dealing arguably the most dynamic receiver on the team to the Jets.

Not as advertised
• From his trade from the Vikings to his trade to the Jets, Percy Harvin averaged 7.1 yards on his 34 offensive touches as a Seahawk. That ranks 188th among those who had at least 20 rushes and receptions combined during that span. Harvin’s 40.3 total yards per game between his two trades ranks 150th among the same players.

• Harvin gained a total of 150 receiving yards during his Seahawks career, which started at the beginning of the 2013 season. There are 265 players with more receiving yards over that span, including eight who play for Seattle.

Impact on the Seahawks

• Russell Wilson will be minimally affected by not having Harvin in the huddle. Wilson had a Total QBR of 45.3 with Harvin on the field this season, and 71.0 without him in the game.

• Harvin struggled to get on the field even when healthy during his two seasons with the Seahawks. Despite being the highest-paid Seahawks wide receiver the past two seasons, his 31.7 snaps played per game rank fifth among Seattle’s wideouts.

Impact on the Jets
• The Jets have been criticized for not spending their available cap space in the offseason, but that's how they were able to make this trade. According to Roster Management System only the Jaguars ($24.2M) had more cap space than the Jets ($20.7M).

• Harvin maintains his reputation as someone who can take the ball to the house on any play, especially on his specialty, the screen pass.

Harvin has 49 receptions on screen passes the past five seasons, third most among all wide receivers, behind Antonio Brown (68) and Pierre Garcon (64). His nine receptions on screen passes ties him for second in the NFL this season.

• Harvin has attempted 11 rushes (on handoffs, pitches or laterals) this season, the most among wide receivers. The man who inherited his role with the Vikings, Cordarrelle Patterson, is the only wide receiver with more rush yards this season than Harvin. No Jets wide receiver has attempted a rush this season.

Salary implications
• Percy Harvin signed a contract extension with the Seahawks in March 2013 that paid him $25.5 million in guaranteed money. That was the most guaranteed money for any skill position player on the Seahawks this season, and considerably more than Russell Wilson ($619K) and Marshawn Lynch ($17.5M) combined.

• Harvin's contract has an average annual cash value of $12.9 million, the third highest among all current wide receiver contracts according to Roster Management System. Harvin’s deal falls behind only a pair of former All-Pros, Calvin Johnson ($16.2M) and Larry Fitzgerald($16.1M).
