Bad news out of Seattle today: Washington announced receiver and kick returner John Ross will miss the 2015 season with a leg injury he suffered in spring practice.
Arguably the most dangerous kick returner in the conference, Ross earned all-Pac-12 honorable mention honors as a return man, and started games at both receiver (7) and cornerback (4) last season for the Huskies. Of his seven touchdowns, only one was for fewer than 55 yards (20) and two came on kickoff returns -- including a 96-yard touchdown in the Cactus Bowl -- which tied a school record set in 1970.
Of the five 100-yard plays in Washington history, Ross is responsible for two -- one in each of the past two seasons.
It's a tough blow for the Huskies, who already face uncertainty at quarterback and are dealing with a mass exodus of top-tier talent on defense. It doesn't change much as far as their expected record next season, but it's surely another sign coach Chris Petersen is facing an uphill battle in his second year.
The school also announced cornerback Jermaine Kelly, who started the first two games of the 2014 season as a redshirt freshman, will transfer. Kelly was injured in practice following the Week 2 game and missed the rest of the season.
