BOSTON -- When Joe Kelly weighed in at the end of the 2014 season, the reading was 198 pounds. He's now down to 178 pounds, although he's not sure why -- he hasn't made a major change in his workout regimen or eating habits -- and the crazy thing is, his fastball velocity has climbed.
In fact, as of this morning, Kelly's average fastball velocity is the highest in the majors at 96.5 mph. That's higher than those of Matt Harvey, Gerrit Cole andAndrew Cashner, and a product of his newfound commitment to each pitch, as well as his remarkable athleticism.
